Invitation to Participate: Research Study on Factors Influencing Health Information Professionals to Advance Education

Dear SDHIMA Members,

Dr. Renae Spohn, Director of HIIM Programs at Dakota State University, and graduate students in completing their capstone course are conducting a research study titled “Factors Influencing Health Information Professionals’ Career and Education Advancement,” and we invite you as members of SDHIMA to participate.


This study aims to collect data on the pursuit of a bachelor’s degree by RHITs. We seek to identify significant factors influencing the pursuit of a bachelor’s degree, focusing on areas such as continuing education, career advancement, and pursuit of advanced degrees.

Duration:  March 18, 2024- April 1, 2024
Method: Survey


Your identity will be kept confidential to the extent permitted by law. Data collected during this study will be stored securely, and only authorized researchers will have access to the data. Any publication or presentation resulting from this study will not include personally identifiable information.

How to Participate

If you choose to participate, you will be asked to complete a survey. The survey includes questions related to demographics, continuing education, career advancement, and the pursuit of advanced degrees. The survey is estimated to take about 10 minutes. 

Participation in this study is entirely voluntary. You have the right to refuse to participate or to withdraw from the study at any time without penalty. Your decision will not affect your relationship with Dakota State University.
