Scholarships

Each year SDHIMA offers two scholarships – one for $1000 and one for $500 – SDHIMA is once again offering this financial assistance.  The eligibility requirements are:

  • Enrolled in six credits of health information management education
  • Minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.7
  • Current member of AHIMA/SDHIMA

This is a great opportunity to be recognized by SDHIMA and gain financial assistance for you education.  Completed application packets must be postmarked by March 31st.  You can also download the packet from the South Dakota Community of Practice.  If you do not meet the eligibility requirements, consider those around you and encourage them to apply.  Questions can be directed to the Scholarship Committee Chair. HIT/HIA Degree Scholarship

Purpose:  For students to apply for the scholarships from SDHIMA.

Eligibility:

  • A current member of AHIMA/SDHIMA.
  • Minimum grade point average of 2.7.
  • Must be enrolled in at least six credits of HIM education.

Required Documentation:

  • Scholarship application. You will upload two reference letters, your transcript, and your resume. Please note that you will have the ability to save the application and return to work on it again at a later time.  You will see “save and continue application later” at the top of the second page.
  • Program verification form to be completed by the program director.

Reimbursement:

One member will be awarded the $1,000 scholarship to help defray the cost of school.  One member will be awarded a $500 scholarship to help defray costs.  The award can be used for either the summer or fall semesters.

Deadline:

The deadline is March 31st with the winners being notified by April 30th.  The check will be sent to the school by June 15th.


Masters Degree Scholarship

Purpose:  For students to apply for the scholarship from SDHIMA.

Eligibility:

  • Must be enrolled in at least six credits of HIM education.
  • Minimum grade point average of 2.7.
  • A current member of AHIMA/SDHIMA.
